Voici une de ces expériences (Barr (R) et al Developmental changes in imitation from television during infancy, in Child Developement N°70, 1999) : prenez une poupée portant un gant accroché à sa main via un morceau de velcro et cachez à l’intérieur de ce gant un grelot. Mettez-vous face à un enfant de 12 ou 15 mois, détachez le gant, secouez-le pour faire tinter le grelot, remettez-le en place et posez la poupée au sol. L’enfant se saisit alors généralement de cette dernière puis il ente d’enlever le gant et de faire tinter le grelot. De manière surprenante, si vous réalisez la même démonstration par le biais d’une télévision, Bébé regarde mais ensuite il ne fait rien, quand l’expérimentateur place la poupée au sol, juste après la vidéo, l’enfant n’essaye ni d’enlever le gant ni de faire tinter le grelot, il se comporte comme un sujet naïf qui n’aurait jamais vu la poupée. Ce déficit vidéo reste largement présent chez des enfants de 18, 24 ou même 30 mois. Il se retrouve dans d’autres types de tâches cognitives impliquant, par exemple, de retrouver un objet que l’expérimentateur vient de cacher."
